Natural Sculptural Forms

When considering the public realm commission its important to be clear on what you can offer.  My sculptured forms are natural and fit best into natural settings, not so much man-made ones.  For example, a park or garden, a forest or uncluttered space.  Other naturally inspired forms fit well around it - chaotic and unordered nature emphasises the serenity and calmness of these pieces well.

My public realm commission is for the emergency department/ childrens wards of Derriford Hospital.  My first compromise will be to the form itself - a 3D form will not fit safely into this environment however a wall mounted form may well meet the hospital criteria.

Colour - the colour and delicacy of my forms will suit a wall piece as I can use the colour to add to the visual aesthetic and enjoyment of the form.  A chaotic form allows the eye to relax.  This is why we find peace from watching leaves in the wind, water flowing and plant formations.  My forms allow for relaxation due to their uncontrolled lines, shapes and textures.  I will use these facts in my application and design as a hospital is an ideal environment that benefits from any calming influence.  The colour will also encourage sensory development in children as my commission will be based on light too.
